AU to Host UAE Hackathon for Third Consecutive Time

Ajman University (AU), committed to its core values, is to host the third edition of the ‘UAE Hackathon’, scheduled on February 10-12 at the Sheikh Zayed Center for Conferences & Exhibitions.

The much-awaited function, part of the ‘UAE Hackathon’ and 'UAE Innovation Month', is to be held under the motto ‘Data for Happiness and Well-being’.

Viewed as the largest data event at the national level, the UAE Hackathon comprises a number of events/hackathons to take place at specific locations throughout the seven emirates.

This project provides an opportunity to different sections of the community including university and high school students, entrepreneurs, employed people and IT experts to use open data as a tool for coming up with solutions based on specific themes and challenges listed for the hackathon.

AU Chancellor, Dr Karim Seghir, said Ajman University is honored to host the ‘UAE Hackathon’ for the third year in a row. “The event, consistent with the ‘Towards the next 50’ national strategy, plays a pivotal role in discovering innovative and creative students, and boosting their talents and brilliant ideas.”

“The nationwide competition aims to develop innovative solutions and ideas that contribute to the happiness index of the many communities in the UAE. These solutions and ideas will be derived from the data that exist within and among government entities.”

The UAE prudent leadership has placed the community happiness and well-being at the forefront of its objectives, strategies and plans, he added.

“Ajman University students have remarkably earned the top spot in the UAE Hackathon 2019, along with the second and third ranks in Ajman version of the same function.”

Earlier, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in collaboration with the National Program for Happiness and Wellbeing, opened the door for registration to storytellers, artists, entrepreneurs, engineers, thinkers, innovators, people of determination, strategists, businessmen and women, problem solvers, and anyone with an imagination to make things better.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director General, said their partnership with Ajman University in the last two hackathons was exemplary. “This fruitful teamwork embodies future foresight and innovation.”

Ajman University has achieved commendable results in last year’s hackathon, he added. “We hope AU maintain its leading role and come up with brilliant ideas and solutions for the upcoming hackathon challenges.”
