Student Exchange Programs

What are exchange programs?

Exchange programs are mutual agreements between Ajman University (AU) and a partner university abroad to exchange students for a period of time while also crediting the hours. Ajman University’s exchange program allows eligible AU students to study abroad for a semester or two at one of AU’s partner universities.

Are you an AU student interested in studying abroad as an exchange student?

There are a couple of things to consider first:

  • Your cumulative GPA should be 2.5 or more.
  • Your cumulative GPA should be 3.0 or more if you want to apply to universities in the US or UK.
  • You should not have been the subject of complaints, investigations, discipline proceedings, suspension, revocation or a fitness to practice hearing.
  • You should have completed at least two consecutive semesters (or a minimum of 30 credit hours) as a full-time student at AU prior to studying abroad.
  • If you’re a final year student, you may be considered for the exchange program after a written recommendation from your respective dean.
  • You must meet any additional eligibility requirements outlined by the host institution of your choice.
  • The College of Medicine and Dentistry students are not eligible for the Exchange Program.
  • You can apply for the exchange in Fall & Spring semesters only, for one semester or for a full academic year (two semesters). Summer semesters are not applicable.

If you meet all the eligibility requirements, it’s time to search and find a suitable program. AU has partnerships with a wide variety of leading institutions that offer student exchange programs, within the UAE and beyond. For any inquiries, please visit our Office of International Acaemic Affairs in the Student Hub, 1st Floor. Kindly do not contact any of the offices abroad.

For information on courses, expenses, application and requirements, you will find a link to informational material next to each university. If unavailable, you can browse their website by clicking on the name of the university. 'All Colleges' indicates that you may apply for any of the university's offered programs if they're a match to your program at AU.

  • Kindly note that you cannot take your Supervised Training or Graduation courses abroad.

  • Tuition Fees:

Exchange Students shall pay tuition and other fees at AU during the Exchange Period as per the applicable tuition and fees at Ajman University (AU). No tuition fees shall be payable to the host university.

  • Personal Expenses:

Exchange Students are responsible for all personal expenses incurred at the host university including visa costs, international travel, travel in the host country, housing, meals, books, equipment, consumables, hospitalization, health insurance, and other incidental expenses.

  • Accommodation:

Students are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. The host university will make every effort to assist AU Exchange Students to obtain on-campus accommodation, at the students' cost. However, if on-campus accommodations are not offered, then off-campus accommodations within reasonable access to the campus will be available instead. The Host School will also provide reasonable assistance on other matters of hospitality.

  • Insurance:

Outbound students are required to carry, at their own expense, adequate travel and medical insurance for the entire exchange period.

  • Financial grants and scholarships:

If a student qualifies for financial aid, he/she will continue to receive financial aid as if he/she was in residence on AU’s campus.

If the student meets the eligibility criteria, he/she will automatically be nominated for AU's Outbound Exchange Student scholarship which covers 50% of the tuition fees at AU. One student per college will receive the scholarship, and there will be a round of interviews to determine the selected nominee.

Apply to be nominated

APPLY HERE

Kindly note that this application is just an "expression of interest". Acceptance and approvals vary according to the following factors:

  • The number of applicants for a specific university: Generally, 2 students only are permitted to be sent from AU to each university. If more than 2 students apply for the program at the same university, a selection process will be conducted to nominate the most suitable candidates.
  • The application requirements of the university abroad: Each university has its own application requirements which will be shared by our office (if not already available in the offered informational documents) after your nomination has been confirmed. Failure to proceed with the university's requirements could lead to the rejection of your application.
  • Course selection: The selected courses to be taken abroad must be similar and officially equated by AU's registration office and your college before joining the university abroad. If the course selection is unsuccessful, an alternative choice of university must be selected.
  • Travel and VISA regulations: Current travel regulations and restrictions in the UAE or the country abroad may affect your progress.
