Student Exchange Programs

AU student on exchange abroad

What are exchange programs?

Exchange programs are agreements between Ajman University and partner universities abroad that let eligible AU students study overseas for a semester or a full year while earning credit toward their AU degree.

Before you apply

A few things to consider first:

  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (3.0 or higher for universities in the US or UK).
  • No record of complaints, investigations, disciplinary proceedings, suspension, revocation, or a fitness-to-practice hearing.
  • At least two consecutive semesters (a minimum of 30 credit hours) completed full-time at AU before going abroad.
  • Final-year students may be considered with a written recommendation from their dean.
  • You must meet any additional requirements set by your chosen host university.
  • College of Medicine and Dentistry students are not eligible for the Exchange Program.
  • Exchange is available in Fall and Spring only, for one semester or a full academic year. Summer is not available.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, the next step is to find a program that fits. AU partners with leading institutions in the UAE and around the world. For any questions, visit the Office of International Academic Affairs in the Student Hub, 1st floor. Please do not contact the partner offices abroad directly.

Use Compass to see which universities match your major, compare your options, and find course and requirement details. "All Colleges" means you may apply to any of that university's programs that match your major at AU.

  • You cannot take your Supervised Training or Graduation courses abroad.
  • For more detail on each university, see our global partners.

Tuition: You continue to pay tuition and fees at AU during the exchange. No tuition is paid to the host university.

Personal expenses: You cover all personal costs at the host university, including visa, international travel, local travel, housing, meals, books, equipment, insurance, and other incidentals.

Accommodation: You arrange your own housing. The host university will try to help you secure on-campus housing at your cost, or assist with off-campus options within reasonable reach of campus.

Insurance: You must carry adequate travel and medical insurance, at your own expense, for the entire exchange period.

Grants and scholarships: If you qualify for financial aid, it continues as if you were on AU's campus. Eligible students are automatically nominated for AU's Outbound Exchange Student Scholarship, which covers 50% of AU tuition. One student per college is selected through interviews.

Applying is an expression of interest. Acceptance and nomination depend on:

  • Number of applicants per university: usually only two students are sent to each partner university. If more apply, a selection process chooses the best-fit candidates.
  • Host university requirements: each has its own requirements, shared once your nomination is confirmed. Not meeting them can lead to rejection.
  • Course selection: your chosen courses must be equated and approved by AU's registration office and your college before you go. If they cannot be matched, you will need to choose another university.
  • Travel and visa regulations: current rules in the UAE or the country abroad may affect your plans.
